There is a specific protocol to follow with children and hypnotherapy. The protocol we developed at UAE Hypnosis works wonderful because it addresses the entire family environment.
Hypnotherapy protocol for children and teens.
Our protocol is necessary for lifelong healing for the child as he is continuously saturated with the family values and beliefs. Below is a simple guideline to expect from working us:
Step 1: The parent(s) job will be to excite the child’s imagination about hypnotherapy (this is the most important step, without this we cannot move forward). The process of hypnotherapy depends on your child’s symptoms and beliefs. There is an initial visit to understand the problem, especially from the child’s point of view. Later sessions will involve teaching your child methods for self-hypnosis and how to use their self-hypnosis skills on their own.
Step 2: Because children are most comfortable in their own environment, we would ask to conduct the session where the child lives. However, this is not necessary if you prefer to have the sessions elsewhere. Hypnosis with children is more of an awake state session involving drawings, imagination, storytelling and engaging in activity that the child enjoys. This can include activities like listening or playing music, drawing and creating art, storytelling or computer games. These activities put the child into a hypnotic talking state naturally and I am able to ask the proper questions to gain the information needed to help the child.
Step 3: We work with the parent(s) because they have to understand what the child is going through. We will share with you the conversations that your child will have with us and together we will discuss the findings.
Step 4: After sessions are complete with the child and we have had conversations with the parents, we can create an audio recording to listen to each night before bed. The recording can be reversals of any negative beliefs, and positive messages encouraging healthy life changes. Also, the parents will be asked to listen to the recording. In our experience the child only heals when the family heals.
Hypnosis combined with Neuro Linguistic Programming (NLP) is the most effective way to work with children and teens. Young minds are open to new experiences, suggestions and solutions with a hunger and willingness to take in new information.
Hypnotherapy has been successfully used to treat acute and recurrent pain, asthma, bed-wetting, stool withholding, habit problems, nervous tics, anxiety, fears and other problems.
According to the University of Utah Health Care, USA, “self-hypnosis is among the most effective therapies for childhood migraine headaches.
Experiencing hypnosis has lifelong benefits. When self-hypnosis is learned and practiced it boosts the child’s confidence and mastery. Young people learn to use this technique to cope with challenges and stresses experienced throughout life.
The task of the parent is to ask questions and to believe and support the process for your child.
Hypnotherapy and self-hypnosis.
When a trained therapist uses hypnosis as part of treatment, it is called hypnotherapy. It is the use of directed, focused imagery in a trance to strengthen self-control over physical and emotional problems.
Self-hypnosis is a state of focused attention using imagination. Children are frequently in a state of hypnosis whenever they make-believe, daydream, listen to and tell stories and when they play computer or video games. Adults often experience hypnosis while praying or concentrating on tasks like driving, writing, cooking, etc.
While in hypnosis people often feel at peace and relaxed, leaving worries behind. Focus and Awareness is enhanced and distractions are ignored. Imagination and creativity ability is intensified. In self-hypnosis, our senses are heightened and you have increased control of your body. Breathing becomes deeper and slower and blood pressure, heart rate, skin temperature and muscle tone can all be controlled. Hypnosis is a wonderful increase of self-control.
You can read information on hypnotherapy together with your child. Also, sit with your child and write questions for us to answer. If your child is younger, hypnotherapy is best explained using words like “using your mind“ or “make-believe.”
Gather the following information about your child.
• How the problem affects your child’s life.
• What you have done so far to help.
• Your own fears and worries about your child’s problem. This is important because your anxiety is transferable. Your child can pick up on your feelings and feel them too.
We’re always here to help.
If you are ready to help your child and want the professional guidance of hypnosis to get you there, contact us today and together we can create a new life for you and your family.
